Arne Nielsen


Arne attended the University of Alberta and graduated in 1949 with an honours degree in Geology and a Masters degree in 1950. Upon graduation, he was soon hired by Socony-Vacuum Exploration Ltd. (now Mobil Oil Canada).


Over the next nine years, Arne worked his way up to Chief Geologist for the company, then spent another seven years in senior exploration and management positions in New York, Denver and Houston where he developed his reputation as a highly intelligent administrator.


Mr. Nielsen returned to Calgary in 1966, as vice-president Exploration of Mobil Oil Canada Ltd., and became the first Canadian president of the company a year later.


When Mobil Oil Corp. acquired Canadian Superior Oil, Mr. Nielsen was appointed chairman and CEO of the merged company. Under his leadership, Mobil Oil was a major partner in the consortium that funded the Hibernia project.


1992 Stanley Slipper Award - Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists.


Arne currently sits on the board of nine different companies. He served on the CPA Executive Committee and has been involved, in an executive or fund-raising capacity, for many charitable and educational institutions.
