George J. McLeod

George J. McLeod, 74, of Calgary, earned renown as an oil finder in both Canada and the United States. Born in Saskatoon, he entered the industry as soon as he graduated with honors in geology in 1951 from the University of Saskatchewan, where his accomplishments are commemorated by a George J. McLeod Chair. After working for four independent prospecting firms, he was recruited by Oklahoma-based Noble Affiliates in 1973 and rose to be its president. He returned to Calgary in 1986 to run his own private exploration and production houses, Geolock Resources and Steel Holdings. At the helm of the Noble organization's Samedan Canada, he broke new ground with numerous discoveries in central Alberta and northeastern British Columbia.
